What I Have Learned

I have learned that sometimes you have to do something for yourself, regardless of others' feelings, and not consider yourself selfish. I have had some first hand experience with this just recently. When I graduated high school, I enrolled right into Long Beach State. I was there for two years, and it was okay, but I didn't feel like I was getting what I needed to out of my college experience. I started looking into moving away from southern California, my home for all my twenty years, and going to school in a completely different atmosphere. I had a boyfriend back at home and a family who was going to miss me, but it was something I had to do. My mom was pretty depressed about the whole transition, but now, five months later, she is better with the idea, as I knew she would be. My boyfriend still misses me, but I am lucky that he understands why I had to do this, and he supports me. Some people may view this as a selfish move, but I knew it was something I had to do, and I haven't regretted my decision at all. I have learned that at times being a little selfish is okay, and it can bring great things.

Good for you. Glad to hear that you decided to give Nor Cal a chance. It's important to stretch yourself and live in different places because the experiences will always be different. Hope you enjoy your time here.

I don't think this is selfish at all. The transition must have been sooo hard but I'm sure you did it for the right reason.. Congrats!!

You are not selfish at all! I am from a small city about a half an hour away and I used to wish that I would have taken a bigger step away from home. Now, you don't have any regrets or have to think about the "what ifs."
